Prenuptial Agreements
Protect a business, family property or children from a prior marriage. We draft and review prenups that follow North Carolina’s Premarital Agreement Act.
Separation Agreements
A well-written separation agreement settles property, support and custody without court. We draft and review NC separation agreements that hold up.
Appellate Practice
Unhappy with a custody, alimony or property ruling? NC appeal deadlines are short. We handle family law appeals to the NC Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
How we approach family law cases
Most family law cases settle, and the best settlements come from careful preparation. We gather the financial records, run the numbers and learn what a judge is likely to do before we negotiate. If your case does need a courtroom, you’ll walk in prepared. Throughout, we keep you informed and give you honest answers about your options.
Two deadlines every North Carolina spouse should know
North Carolina requires one year of separation before an absolute divorce. Before that divorce is granted, you must file or settle any claim for equitable distribution, alimony or post-separation support, or you lose it (N.C.G.S. 50-11). If you’re separated or thinking about it, talk to a lawyer early.
